Location: Ica, Peru
Silence in the Dunes was captured on a cloudy, quiet morning in Ica, Peru—a moment of stillness, spaciousness, and self-expression amidst the vast sand dunes. After a slow hike to the crest of the dune, wrapped in my scarf and held by the soft breath of the desert, I felt a calling to undress—not for spectacle, but for remembrance. It was a time in my life when I was returning to my heart and honoring the beauty of my body as it was, fully and simply.
There was no one around. Just the clouds, the sand, the silence—and something sacred in the air. This photo became one of the most beloved portraits I’ve ever taken. It marked a turning point, a reclamation of peace and presence within myself.
The land itself held deeper meaning, too. My partner at the time had lost someone he deeply loved—a woman whose heart resonated with the desert. Being in this place felt like a quiet thread of connection among all of us, a way to honor life, love, and memory through beauty.
I climbed to the silence,
where only sky and sand remained.
A scarf.
A breath.
A body returned to itself.
The wind said nothing—
and in that nothing,
I heard everything.
Shot on 35mm film, the image is soft, light-kissed, and timeless—an intimate portrait of simplicity, surrender, and the still power of being.
